STEP ONE
BREAK
The art of Kintsugi involves five steps, the first of which is ‘break’. This is when a whole piece is broken but not discarded. A second chance is given as the artist sees its future potential and begins the restoration process. Crossway Worship’s new single, “Future Hope” celebrates this first step of being broken and made whole again. Our God sees our brokenness and our potential. He sees our ‘Future Hope’ and begins to make us new.
JEREMIAH 29:11
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Broken. Shattered.
We all are.
Battered and bruised by life and cheap choices.
Can I be useful again?
Can I be cured?
Is there a reconstruction?
And why would I be selected?
Even if I were,
Is the damage too severe?
Am I reparable?
Redeemable?
Restorable?
Oh to be whole again…
You say I can be.
You can do restoration
You will reconstruct me.
It will likely be painful
It’ll surely take time.
In hands of a master artist
There’s nowhere safer to be.
So I’ll trust in the process
I’ll lean into your plans
Plans not to harm me
Plans to recreate me again.
You make all things new
Infuse in me hope for your plans
When my present brokenness
Is made whole by your hands.
ABOUT
KINTSUGI
Kintsugi (金継ぎ, “golden joinery”) is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. It literally translates as being “joined with gold”. This beautiful artform models the master artist’s work in our own lives, as our Heavenly Father lovingly collects our broken pieces and makes us whole again through the power of Jesus’ death and resurrection and the work of His Holy Spirit.
Do you have a story about God’s restoration in your life?
